Alum Interview: Adam Johnson

Meet Bakery Science Alum, Adam Johnson! Class of 2018. Degrees in both Bakery Science & Management and Food Science & Technology with a minor in Leadership studies.

Favorite Baked Good: Sourdough Bread

Current Role: R&D Associate for the Breakfast Team at Bimbo Bakeries USA

What is a day in the life like as an R&D Scientist? So, depending on the day, we’ll start with scoring our products for different projects or start the day with team meetings. Throughout the day I work on testing and baking different formulations in the lab, work with various teams on costings, regulatory sheets, capabilities, etc.

Favorite part of being in the industry? I love that no day is the same. There are always problem-solving opportunities, which makes the work exciting. The people also make the industry special, everyone I’ve met has been so warm & helpful!

Why do you recommend a degree in baking science? I am forever grateful for all the experiences that I have had within the grain science program at K-State to get me to where I am today. I’ve had the opportunities to work in many different areas, including retail baking, QA and manufacturing for a large flour milling company. It has always been my dream to work in R&D for such a great company! Being exposed to the baking industry at K-State has helped me flourish and do what I love.
